Recent Letters:

In the past few weeks HMRC have been sending out multiple different letters but indicating monies to pay in voluntary contributions. These letters have been sent on the same date or within a few days of the correct detailed HMRC Pension Statement (Letter A) with Gap table of years that can be bought.

An anonymised copy of each of the 2 letter types for information can be downloaded.

Letter A> Detailed Statement with Gaps that can be filled and a table of annual gaps

Letter B> Letter with a period of time indicated and a single amount specified.

I have contacted HMRC several times in the past week since the “Letter B”s have started to be sent out. The HMRC desk in each case could see the “Letter A”s on their screens and confirm they are the correct amounts to be calculated and can be paid.

HMRC inform me that the “Letter B” letters are being auto generated by their system and are causing great confusion and are often inaccurate. I have asked that they correct their automated system as it is causing great confusion. I sensed they were getting multiple calls.

HMRC said I should ignore Letter B and consider Letter A  to be the correct letter ie– the Detailed Statement with Gaps that can be filled and a table of annual gaps.

I trust this is helpful. If you need to check yourself, please call HMRC on +441912037010
